Mission Trips

HMCCC's mission trips are an extension of our loving servanthood. We travel to places where we may be of help to our brothers an sisters in need. Whenever possible, we work through local agencies/ministries. Our mission trips are not, however, simply work oriented. They are also relationship oriented, for “when buildings crumble, relationships will remain.” We share openly with our hosts and learn from each other. Our cross-cultural service experiences foster understanding; which in turn lays the groundwork for the peace, joy, and love that comes from true communion with others.

Through the years, we have sponsored mission trips to the following locations: General Assembly - Fort Worth, TX; Beattyville, KY; Juarez, Mexico; Red Lake Reservation - Red Lake, MN; Fayetteville, AR; Denver, CO; Wanblee, SD; Pine Ridge Reservation - Pine Ridge, SD; Arnett, WV; Covington, TN; Cherokee Reservation - Cherokee, NC; Rosebud Reservation - Mission, SD.

Explore the overview below of the mission work taking place at HMCCC! Feel free to contact Pastor Terry for additional information.

  • Summer 2008 New Orleans/Gulf Coast Hurricane Recovery Trip: HMCCC's mission trip is being held in conjunction with the denomination and Week of Compassion. HMCCC has received a $500.00 grant from Week of Compassion to work at the Covington, Louisiana, Mission Station operated by our denomination, The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). There is still much disaster recovery work to be done!

  • Summer 2008 Children of Belarus: The mission of the Children of Belarus program is to provide a 4-5 week "recuperation" home stay with American host families. Formerly a part of the Soviet Union, Belarus is the country that suffered the most from the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion, which released more than 200 times the radiation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined into the atmosphere. More than 75% of the fallout settled in Belarus. By offering the children of Belarus a few weeks of our air, water, food, dental, and medical care, it is hoped that we add years to their lives. For information about hosting a child this summer, contact Pastor Terry.

  • Summer 2008 Work Project in Greensburg, Kansas: Our denomination has organized a summer work project in Greensburg, Kansas. Partner with Disciples Volunteering, Week of Compassion, and Long-Term Interfaith Recovery organizations in Greensburg June 8-July 19, and you will make a difference. The cost is $150.00 per week for adults and $75.00 per week for children (Sunday dinner through Saturday breakfast). The cost includes space on the floor to sleep, all meals, showers, t-shirt, koozie, insurance, and project support. For commuters (those living in or near the Greensburg area), special arrangements are possible. If you're interested in volunteering, pleas contact Pastor Terry.

  • Winter 2009/10 – Costa Rica: This trip is an outreach of the People-to-People Pilgrimage Program of the Global Ministries office of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The purpose of this trip is three-fold:
    1. Strengthen the faith of those who attend. Daily times for sharing, Bible study and prayer help each individual to experience this trip as a spiritual journey.
    2. Enrich the sense of unity in the body of Christ by developing and strengthening relationships between the churches. We will immerse ourselves in the IEPC churches, building friendships with individuals and sharing in their lives and in their culture.
    3. Provide material and financial support for our brothers and sisters in Costa Rica.

  • Habitat for Humanity: HMCC regularly participates with Habitat for Humanity, a 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian Ministry working to fulfill the dream of home ownership for low-income families in need. Habitat for Humanity's goal is to provide decent, affordable homes to qualified families based on the principle found in Leviticus 25:35-37: "If a brother living near you becomes poor, you must provide for him ...do not make a profit on the goods you sell him." HMCCC is proud to contribute to the work of this important organization.

  • June 009 Group Workcamp Mission Trip to Indianapolis, Indiana: Youth (age 12 and up) and adults who are interested in attending this mission trip are asked to contact Pastor Terry as soon as possible.
